EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

Comprehensive Assessments

Comprehensive assessments utilise standardized tests and questionnaires to evaluate your child's well-being and development in one or more of the following areas:

  • Cognitive strengths and challenges

  • Academic ability and potential

  • Social and emotional well-being

  • Executive functioning, such as attention, memory and organization

  • Adaptive skills, such as self-care, communication,  and decision making

  • School readiness, including early school entry or delayed school entry

This information can provide insight into your child's preferred learning style, guide the development of interventions and accommodations, and enable families to make informed decisions about educational placement, subject selection, or career choice.

Diagnostic Assessments

A diagnostic assessment can also be conducted if you believe that your child displays cognitive, academic or behavioural characteristics that warrant further investigation. The following conditions can be evaluated with a multidisciplinary team:

  • Specific Learning Disability (SLD) in reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia) or mathematics (dyscalculia).

  • Intellectual Disability (ID)

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Intellectual Giftedness

When presented sensitively and appropriately, a diagnosis can provide a shared understanding of your child’s unique strengths and challenges, identify suitable supports, and enable access to additional services and funding.

The Assessment Process

All assessments use evidence-based tools and methods and are delivered in consultation with parents, teachers, doctors, and allied health professionals. Children complete a range of tasks, activities and games in a friendly and inviting consultation room over 2 to 3 sessions. Classroom observations may also be arranged in certain circumstances. Parents are subsequently provided with a comprehensive report outlining the assessment results and recommendations.

As assessments are tailored to the needs of the individual, it is best to get in touch and find out what is involved.
